The Association was originally formed in 1977 as the Quality Assurance Group of the United Kingdom, or QAG (UK).
It was renamed the British Association of Research Quality Assurance (BARQA) in 1991, and became an incorporated company (Limited by Guarantee) in 1997.
Then, in 2012, the Board and Members agreed to a change of name to reflect the international nature of its activity - the Research Quality Association (RQA).
Since its inception, the Association has expanded and developed to reflect the changes in regulatory requirements, government inspections, and the needs of professionals.
In 2017 we celebrate the first 40 years of RQA and reflect on some of the more-memorable moments.
Take a look at the Gallery of RQA photos and the Timeline charting the history of the Association.
